The Education Academic Community (EAC) will focus on training pediatric residents with a strong interest in medical education on developing skills to be an effective educator in a medical academic setting, including learning theory, effective teaching skills, providing feedback, and developing scholarly activity projects in medical education.
Objectives
- Gain further understanding of adult learning theory and how it relates to effective medical education
- Learn and utilize different teaching techniques and how to incorporate them in clinical education
- Learn how to maintain a Teaching Portfolio for residency
- Develop critical feedback skills for lectures and teaching activities
- Gain the necessary skills to pursue a career of excellence in scholarly education
Requirements
- Attend monthly meetings (combination of noon and end of day meetings)
- Develop and maintain a Teaching Portfolio
- Write a one page reflection paper at the completion of the program discussing teaching experiences and growth
- Maintain a progress report that documents teaching experiences during residency
- Focused and purposeful teaching in clinical settings with directed feedback
- Regular meetings with the EAC Faculty Leads and Scholarly Project Mentor
Scholarly Project
- All members will be required to produce a scholarly research project in the field of education with the assistance of a selected mentor.
- The project will be presented at the Department of Pediatrics Research Retreat.
- The project may also be presented at a regional or national level and ideally should lead to publication.
