Dr. Caroline West holds a Master of Science in Clinical Research from the University of Pittsburgh, which has shaped her focus on advancing equity in pediatric cardiology. Her research addresses how social determinants of health influence outcomes for children with complex congenital heart disease, including those requiring advanced mechanical circulatory support. Additionally, she has studied the barriers faced by women during pediatric cardiology training and has presented her findings at the national level, highlighting strategies to promote equitable advancement within the field. Dr. West’s future work aims to identify barriers to heart failure care and develop initiatives to ensure all children have equitable access to advanced heart failure therapies.
