Somto grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland just outside of Washington, D.C. She attended Emory University for college where she studied Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology with a minor in Anthropology. She ended up enjoying the South so much that she came to Vanderbilt for medical school and decided to stay for residency. During medical school, Somto developed a passion for community health research and medical education.

Somto enjoys all things pop culture as well as writing, exploring new landscapes with friends, and occasionally trying her hand at cooking and baking.
