Somto grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland just outside of Washington, D.C. She attended Emory University for college where she studied Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology with a minor in Anthropology. She ended up enjoying the South so much that she came to Vanderbilt for medical school and decided to stay for residency. During medical school, Somto dug deeper into her passion for health equity in both her research and other activities while discovering ways it could be combined with her new love of medical education.

Somto enjoys all things pop culture as well as writing, exploring new landscapes with friends, and occasionally trying her hand at cooking and baking.
