Dr. Tom Doub joined Vanderbilt Health Center for Patient and Professional Advocacy (CPPA) after more than 20 years working to integrate research and practice across a variety of behavioral health leadership positions, and is excited to apply those lessons to CPPA’s mission.
Prior to joining CPPA in 2019, he served as Chief Clinical Officer and Chief Compliance Officer at American Addiction Centers (AAC), where he was responsible for national oversight of clinical, quality, and compliance programs for one of the nation’s largest providers of addiction treatment. Previously, he was Chief Executive Officer of Centerstone Research Institute (CRI), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare through research and information technology. Dr. Doub joined Centerstone as Vice President of Research in 2003. He was named Chief Operating Officer of CRI in 2008 and appointed CEO in 2011. Under Dr. Doub’s leadership, CRI established a unique blend of research, technology and evaluation services, pursuing a vision where all individuals and families facing behavioral health disorders receive exceptional care. The organization was awarded more than $150 million in grant funding, established influential partnerships with prominent universities and researchers across the nation and was involved in more than 150 groundbreaking studies. CRI innovators built tools such as Enlighten Analytics, an innovative analytics platform that transforms operational and clinical data into functional, insightful information to help improve operations, reduce costs and enhance patient care.
Dr. Doub and CRI’s team of more than 100 experienced researchers, analysts, statisticians and technology professionals received broad recognition for their successful and impactful integration of research and technology, including being featured in IBM’s Smarter Planet Leadership Series, winning the Data Warehousing Institute’s Best Practices Award in 2010, SAMHSA’s Science and Service Award and the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare’s Innovation Award. Dr. Doub also has been honored as a Healthcare Hero by the Nashville Business Journal. Dr. Doub is regularly invited to share his expertise with diverse groups including IBM’s Information-On-Demand conference, and other national meetings.
Dr. Doub received his Ph.D. in both Clinical and Quantitative Psychology from Vanderbilt University. The Denison Lab studies the coronaviruses (CoVs), specifically Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV). They work to define the mechanisms of virus evolution and adaptation. Ongoing projects include studies of a unique virus-encoded RNA proofreading enzyme in coronavirus evolution and disease, studies of potential therapeutic monoclonal antibodies, and testing of highly active antiviral nucleoside analogs against all CoVs. Dr. Denison has trained graduate students, postdocs, medical students, undergraduates and faculty in virology research. Dr. Denison directs a T32 (training grant) for ID Fellows and postdoctoral scientists, and is a training director for the Pediatrics K12 physician-scientist training grant.
