We participate in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and only accept applications in this manner; our program number is 1702185C0. Vanderbilt offers four categorical positions through the Match. Our standard categorical position is five years and includes two years of Pediatrics followed by three years of Child Neurology, with all of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) rotations required to be board-eligible at the time of completion of residency training. There are additional training pathways leading to ABPN board eligibility, and these are considered on an individual basis.
Applicants for the Match need to submit a single application form to the Child Neurology Categorical Program (1702185C0) to ERAS. This will automatically include the Pediatrics component of our training program. A separate application to the General Pediatrics Residency should not be completed when applying for our categorical program. Please provide three letters of recommendation in ERAS. Our program accepts either or both of the USMLE® or COMLEX® licensing exams. As with other ACGME programs, the first Step/Level of these licensing exams should be successfully completed before interview season and the second Step/Level should be successfully completed prior to the official start of intern year. Our program performs holistic review of every application we receive.
Our interview dates typically range from late October through January. Applicants invited for an interview will meet with faculty from Pediatric Neurology, Pediatrics, and Neurology, as well as our Child Neurology residents. Additionally, you will be provided with the details of optional virtual hangouts with the Pediatrics residents. While virtual interviews have changed the experience, there are ample opportunities to get to know our team, department, and medical center.
