Welcome to the Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship Program

Letter from the Director

Jennifer Kelley, MD, MSCE

Thank you for your interest in the Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship training program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. We are delighted to showcase.

Our fellowship program, which combines rigorous clinical training with exceptional educational and research opportunities available through Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Our program prepares fellows for fulfilling careers in pediatric endocrinology by fostering excellence in clinical care, education, research, and leadership. We are committed to developing skilled clinicians, dedicated educators, and innovative scholars, while providing robust mentorship and unique opportunities to pursue meaningful scholarly activities that shape the future of the field.

The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology is one of the largest such divisions in the country. Our 17 faculty see over 30,000 patient visits annually. We provide clinical service to over nine states in the Southeastern United States and have clinical outreach to a diverse patient population in urban, suburban, and rural areas. We are supported by six specialized advanced practice nurses, a research psychologist, social workers, child life specialists, dietitians, diabetes educators, and families as we work to achieve the best outcome for every child living with an endocrine disorder. Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt is a free-standing children’s hospital that serves children and their families from Tennessee and neighboring states. The hospital has been named the No. 1 children’s hospital in Tennessee and the No. 1 children’s hospital in the Southeast by U.S. News & World Report. It is also among only 22 children’s hospitals ranked nationally in 10 out of 10 pediatric specialties.

Our faculty are committed to education and to helping trainees develop their own paths as pediatric endocrinologists. Our division has multiple leaders within clinical care, medical education, quality improvement, information technology, and scientific discovery, including multiple NIH-funded investigators. Additionally, we are a Clinical Center within the Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet, where we help lead the next advances in prevention and cure for T1D.

Previous fellows have uncovered novel mechanisms of T1D development, have launched basic and translational programs in obesity, and have even investigated endocrine management in Africa among other outstanding projects. Our fellows have won numerous accolades and funding awards while publishing their work and excelling at clinic care. Alumni from our program have productive careers in academic research, teaching, and patient care in diverse positions throughout the country. We hope that you might be amongst the next trainees in our program to help shape the future of pediatric endocrinology.

We invite you to use the information provided here to learn about our program and peruse our website. Please do not hesitate to contact us directly if there is anything we can do to help or if there are any questions you may have. Thank you again for taking the time to consider our program.

Sincerely,

International Candidates

The division of Pediatric Endocrinology at VUMC considers international medical graduates for fellowship positions based on their individual accomplishments and credentials. All international medical graduates must be ECFMG certified prior to entering any of our ACGME-approved fellowship programs. Fellowship applicants must complete an ACGME-approved pediatric residency (three-year minimum) to be considered for the program.

We support J1 visas. Unfortunately, we are not able to support H1B visas under most circumstances.

  • Applicants completing an accredited pediatrics residency program and board-certified or board-eligible as defined by the American Board of Pediatrics are eligible to apply as are candidates in the ARP or IRP who need an additional year of clinical training before board eligibility. We will select up to two fellows to begin training in July 2026.
