Thank you for considering the Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) Fellowship at Vanderbilt! We're thrilled to share our incredible program with you.
At the heart of our division is a simple but powerful mission: to help every child we serve live their best possible life. Whether we’re caring for a patient at the bedside, making breakthroughs in discovery, leading quality and safety initiatives, or educating the next generation of physicians, our work is grounded in compassion, collaboration, and a deep commitment to children and their families.
Our fellowship program, established in 2019, was among the very first in the country to earn ACGME accreditation. Our goal is to nurture thoughtful, skilled, and compassionate pediatric hospitalists who are not only experts in caring for acutely and chronically ill hospitalized children but also equipped to lead and advance the field of Pediatric Hospital Medicine. Through rich clinical experiences, robust mentorship, and individualized scholarly support, we prepare our fellows to thrive as educators, researchers, advocates, and future leaders in PHM. Our graduates leave with the knowledge, skills, and vision to make meaningful contributions—wherever their paths may lead. All fellows complete ACGME requirements and become board-eligible in two years, with an optional third year available for those pursuing an advanced degree such as an MPH. Our program is currently accepting two fellows per class.
What truly sets our program apart is our people. Our division is home to more than two dozen dedicated faculty members, including 20 PHM board-certified physicians, many of whom are national leaders in research, education, patient safety, and health policy. We’re especially proud of our strong teaching culture—our faculty have earned the resident teaching award seven years running and are regularly recognized with the School of Medicine’s highest honors in education.
From day one, our fellows become valued members of a warm, supportive, and intellectually vibrant community. With the mentorship, flexibility, and opportunities we offer, our graduates leave here not only well-trained, but truly inspired—ready to shape the future of pediatric hospital medicine.
We invite you to explore our fellowship and learn more about what makes it such a special place to train. I’m so proud to be part of this extraordinary program and would love to talk with you about how Vanderbilt can support your goals and dreams in academic medicine. We can’t wait to meet you!
Warmest regards,
