Pediatric Outreach Medicine is the academic home for providers working in Hospital Medicine, Newborn Medicine, Primary Care, and Urgent Care at our satellite clinics. Hospital Medicine
Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Williamson Medical Center opened in July 2015 in order to provide high quality, focused pediatric care to patients and their families closer to their homes. This location includes an 8-bed Emergency Department (with two trauma bays) and a 16-bed pediatric inpatient unit. There are pediatric emergency physicians staffing the Emergency Department 24/7, as well as four pediatric hospitalists who staff the inpatient unit and round on newborn nursery patients. All of the physicians are employed by Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The team also includes pediatric-trained nurses and a devoted pediatric respiratory therapy team that have previously rotated at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
Our location accepts direct admissions to the inpatient unit from community pediatricians via direct calls to the pediatric hospitalist. We offer pediatric telemedicine services with the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Vanderbilt and Youth Villages Psychiatry.

Newborn Medicine
Across Middle Tennessee, several community hospitals have partnered with Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt to provide delivery room call, routine newborn care, and special care nursery services at their Level 1 and special care nurseries. We proudly coordinate with the Tennessee Department of Health’s annual perinatal quality improvement projects with the aim to address our specific patient populations. Our providers have continuing education with high-fidelity simulation labs to provide all mother-baby dyads with the most up to date and standardized medicine while newborns remain in at their local hospitals.

Vanderbilt Children's Primary Care - Smyrna has board-certified pediatricians to provide comprehensive pediatric care from birth to age 18. We take care of a diverse patient population and offer interpreter services. We also follow the CDC and AAP schedules for vaccines and well child care.

Urgent Care
The Vanderbilt Children’s After-Hours Clinics provide pediatric services to children throughout Middle Tennessee. Our clinics serve families by offering quality care in the evenings and weekends when they would otherwise not be able to seek care from their primary care provider. We are able to see patients with common pediatric complaints, including fever, sore throat and ear pain, to minor procedures, including laceration repairs and musculoskeletal injuries. Through the After-Hours Clinics, we are able to continue to expand access to the excellent care of Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
