Research Information
Dr. Moore's initial research at Vanderbilt focused on the Beta-2-adrenergic receptor (ADRB2) pathway in airway smooth muscle as a model for changes in the asthmatic airway. His clinical and research background has been particularly helpful in the use of longitudinal birth cohorts to study respiratory outcomes. His current research efforts are focused on respiratory outcomes in the Developmental Impact of NICU Exposures (DINE) Study, a cohort of children born prematurely, and in the PATHWAYS Study, a cohort of children in which maternal stress and other environmental exposures were prospectively collected. Both studies are funded through the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program, and he serves as the Pediatric Pulmonologist with expertise in the physiologic assessments needed for long-term follow-up. Although the analysis and follow up are ongoing, both cohorts have well characterized phenotypes and include a number of biologic specimens that will allow the research team to probe mechanistic questions about the development of asthma.
