Research Information

Dr. Russell is an Assistant Professor of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Vanderbilt University, as well as a graduate of the Integrative Medicine Fellowship at the University of Arizona. Bridging these two disciplines, she has a research and clinical interest in evaluating and treating pediatric functional gastrointestinal disorders, particularly functional nausea. Dr. Russell serves as Medical Director of the Pediatric Nausea Clinic, the only clinical and research program in the nation dedicated to evaluating and treating chronic nausea in children. In collaboration with Dr. Lynn Walker's laboratory, she has conducted research describing the short- and long-term morbidity of chronic nausea in adolescents with functional abdominal pain. This research was selected for a platform presentation at Digestive Disease Week in May 2015. She has also been part of a longstanding research collaboration with Dr. Alan Bradshaw’s lab, assessing gastric slow-wave dysrhythmias in children with functional nausea using bioelectric and Biomagnetic measurement tools. The work of this multidisciplinary research group has resulted in multiple peer-reviewed publications and posters of distinction.
