Combined Pediatrics Medical Genetics Residency Program

Suné is originally from Pretoria, South Africa, and grew up with her parents and one younger brother. After graduating from medical school, she went on to complete a two-year internship at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, followed by an additional year as a physician in the pediatric department. It was during this time that she was exposed to a wide range of genetic disorders, which cultivated her interest in genetics.

She is passionate about promoting and protecting breastfeeding and is registered as an international board-certified lactation consultant. She hopes to contribute to research on lactation in genetic conditions and collaborate with her home country, South Africa, to facilitate testing for children with undiagnosed genetic diseases in Africa.

Outside of work, Suné enjoys listening to live music, participating in game nights, and traveling. The highlight of her travels is the opportunity to see renowned artworks. She has been privileged to see Michelangelo's David, Starry Night, The Girl With The Pearl Earring, The Night Watch, Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, The Mona Lisa, and many more exquisite pieces. She is beyond thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to join the genetics department at Vanderbilt for her training as a medical geneticist.
