Adrienne Marler, DO

Adrienne

2nd Year Fellow
Pediatric Endocrinology

Adrienne grew up in rural Pennsylvania and later studied medical anthropology at the University of Pittsburgh. She traded the rolling, wooded hills for the magical sunsets of Phoenix, Arizona to attend A.T. Still University School of Medicine in Arizona & complete her pediatric residency training at Phoenix Children's Hospital. She found endocrinology both intellectually stimulating and deeply satisfying in watching children grow & bloom with their interventions.

Longing for rivers and forests, Adrienne set out for middle Tennessee with her husband, Zach, and their cat, Roger. Vanderbilt offered the perfect opportunity for her endocrinology career to grow & blossom itself! Here, she is exploring her interests in the impact of sex hormones on growth, development, and lipid metabolism. She spends much of her spare time tending her vegetable garden & indoor jungle, as well taking both outdoor & culinary adventures with her husband.

Kaitlyn Wise, MD

Kaitlyn
Wise
MD
PGY 2

Kaitlyn grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee and was number three of her parents' seven children. She ventured over to middle Tennessee for her undergraduate education at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville where she majored in biochemistry and minored in mathematics. During her gap year, Kaitlyn gave back to the community she grew up in by tutoring students at the community college less than a mile from her childhood home. She attended East Tennessee State University in Johnson City for medical school.

Kaitlyn enjoys spending her free time with her husband, Eric, their two dogs (Luna and Trixie, short for Bellatrix), and cat (Minnie, short for Minerva). She enjoys yoga, games of all varieties, reading, crocheting, and bingeable tv.

Amanda Williams, MD

Amanda
Williams
MD
PGY 2

For most of her life, Amanda grew up surrounded by corn fields and dairy farms in rural Pennsylvania, about 30 minutes from Gettysburg. However, she recently relocated with her family to the backwoods of West Virginia after her super cute nephew was born. Amanda attended Elizabethtown College where she majored in Biochemistry. After college, she moved to Hershey, PA to begin her medical training at the Penn State College of Medicine. Highlights of her time in medical school included a trip to Iquitos, Peru as a Global Health Scholar (fortunately, she only saw one tarantula—it was no longer living), forming a band with a few other medical students, developing a passion for education and obtaining her M.Ed. degree, and meeting a wonderful group of friends who would cruise down rivers on their inflatable kayaks.

For fun, Amanda likes to hike, kayak, watch the Philadelphia Eagles when they are winning, listen to and play funk music on her bass guitar, drum set, or keyboard, and spend time with her friends and family (mostly her super cute nephew).

PGY 2

Brian was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, growing up in Tacoma, Washington and attending Gonzaga University in Spokane. While at Gonzaga, he studied biology and philosophy in the GU Honors Program, cheered on the Zags basketball team, and most importantly, met his wife, Amanda. After undergrad, Brian moved to Seattle to complete his medical degree at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Throughout his life, Brian's own experience with Crohn's disease has led him to be passionate about IBD care for children, especially through Camp Oasis.

Outside of medicine, he loves to run, cheer on the Zags, Mariners, and Seahawks, and play with his black lab, Boone. After 26 years in the "Upper Left" of the U.S. map, Brian is excited to see what Tennessee is all about.

During medical school, Somto dug deeper into her passion for health equity in both her research and other activities while discovering ways it could be combined with her new love of medical education.

Somto enjoys all things pop culture as well as writing, exploring new landscapes with friends, and occasionally trying her hand at cooking and baking.

PGY 2

Although born in a rainy town in Belgium, Scott grew up in Arlington, Virginia, with the majority of his time spent volunteering and working at a local nature center that fostered his love for helping all things with fur, scales, or skin. He went to University of Virginia (go Wahoos!) and attended VCU School of Medicine in Richmond, Virginia, where his passion for working with children blossomed into a career in pediatrics.

If you are not able to find him in the wards of Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, Scott might be drinking coffee and reading a good book at home, on a woodsy Nashville trail, or in front of the stove cooking with his fiancée.

Kelsi Mellin, MD

Kelsi
Mellin
MD
PGY 2

Kelsi grew up in a small, rural town in Northwest Ohio. Throughout childhood, she spent most weekends playing travel softball and/or doing competition cheerleading. In high school, Friday nights were filled with football games and bonfires with friends. Kelsi loved growing up in this quaint community, but she had big dreams for college and a future career as a pediatrician. She continued her education at Vanderbilt University where she also was a four-year member and captain of the cheerleading team. Kelsi met her husband, Ethan, during the first day of freshman year in their orientation group. They dated for seven years before getting married in the Spring of 2022. Kelsi, Ethan, and their goldendoodle, Lyla Mae, moved to Washington D.C. after college where she attended medical school at George Washington University and spent as much time as possible training at Children's National.

Outside of medicine, Kelsi loves to spend time with family and friends - whether that is taking Lyla to the dog park, making drinks while Ethan cooks, or hosting a board game night. She is a fierce lover of romance novels, all things babies, and football season. Kelsi and Ethan are so excited to be back "home" in Nashville as Kelsi continues her medical training at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
