2nd Year Fellow
Pediatric Emergency Medicine

Liz grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, a.k.a. “Chicagoland,” and then moved to the big city for college at Loyola University. She completed medical school at University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and training in pediatrics at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. After a lifetime shivering in the north and longing for mountains, Liz is so happy to be living close to the Smokies in much warmer Nashville with her husband, Robert, and dog, Iggy.

In addition to teaching and doctoring, Liz enjoys serving in the teenage ministry at church, hiking early in the morning, and storytelling through music, poetry, and essays. Her research interests are adolescent health and ethical care of the pediatric patient in the emergency room.

Mallory was raised in Waterford, Connecticut and attended the University of Connecticut where she studied violin. She first considered a career in medicine when she took anatomy and physiology her senior year in high school and her teacher encouraged her to consider developing her natural curiosity and aptitude for science. After getting more exposure to the clinical environment through her volunteer work in the Philippines and San Antonio, Texas, she was ready to commit to medicine as a career. She moved to Louisville, Kentucky to complete the post-baccalaureate pre-med program where she fell in love with the people and the city and chose to continue on for Medical School there. Mallory is excited to get to know Nashville and hopes to continue working with her acoustic duo, Cassie and Mallory, and take in all the beauty in and around the city.

Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics

Kristin was born and raised in Georgia, growing up between Athens and Atlanta surrounded by her close-knit family. She always knew Pediatrics was her calling from a young age and enjoyed working with children with special needs the most, whether that be through the Special Olympics, volunteering at events designed for special needs families, or working with her sister to create an organization that promotes activities and outreaches for the special needs community.

Kristin's journey has lead her to Developmental Pediatrics, and she is more than excited to be in Nashville. When she is not working, Kristin enjoys playing/coaching/watching soccer, spending time with her niece and nephew, baking, and traveling (especially to Disney).

PGY-2
Combined Pediatrics Medical Genetics Residency Program

Yutaka was born and raised in Kanagawa, Japan with his older twin sisters, younger brother and four cats. Yutaka graduated from Nippon Medical School in Tokyo, Japan. After medical school, he had worked at the United States military hospitals in Japan as not only a treating physician but also the medical and cultural liaison. In this role, he was responsible for helping arrange transfers to local Japanese hospitals for acutely-ill American patients who require a higher level of care. In the meantime, Yutaka learned American culture and found lifelong friends and mentors.

During his Pediatrics and Genetics rotation in the U.S., Yutaka encountered a broad spectrum of rare disease cases, which he had never seen in Japan. This experience stimulated his intellectual curiosity and solidified his interest in Genetics.

Outside of medicine, Yutaka loves playing rugby football and is a big fan of old school rock music (Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Guns N's Roses, etc.).

Russell was born in Oakland, California and raised for the bulk of his life in Dublin, California. He completed his undergraduate education at UC Berkeley and graduated with the intention of becoming a paleontologist. He discovered his passion for medicine while working as an EMT in East Oakland and Matriculated into Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine (in Michigan, not California) after completing a post-baccalaureate. Afterwards, he completed a fantastic pediatrics residency at Albany Medical Center but realized he would never feel complete without having Child Neurology as part of his life.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Cassie, and corgi, Charlotte, dancing, kayaking, baking, and reading for pleasure.

Nathan Zaroban, MD

Nathan
Zaroban
MD
Pediatrics, Year 2
Child Neurology Residency Program

Nathan was born in Pennsylvania but grew up in Nebraska City, a small town in the southeast corner of Nebraska. After graduating from Nebraska City High School, he attended Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa for his undergraduate studies. There, he majored in biochemistry, minored in neuroscience, and played baseball. He then returned home for medical school at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in Omaha.

The nervous system has always fascinated Nathan, and he always knew he would become a neurologist. However, it wasn't until the clinical training years of medical school that he discovered his love of pediatric medicine. Wanting the best of both fields, he decided to train in pediatric neurology!

He moved to Nashville with his wife, Madison, daughter, Sedona, and dog, Zara. He enjoys watching baseball, hiking, golfing, playing video games, traveling, playing with his puppy, and exploring this awesome city with his family. He looks forward to experiencing the world-class live music scene and becoming a Nashville sports fan.
