Child Neuro, Year 3
Child Neurology Residency Program

Djamila was born in Afghanistan and lived in Pakistan for a couple of years before moving to the Netherlands with her family at the age of 10 as refugees. Her interest in clinical research began during an international research elective as medical student here at Vanderbilt, where she also obtained her MPH. Her research was primarily focused on the complications of sickle cell disease, including the neurological sequelae of sickle cell disease. During this time, she discovered her passion for child neurology.

Djamila is married to Matin who she met in Nashville, and they have a 3-year-old son together (Noah). They are also proud cat and dog parents of Keanu and Harley. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, cooking, eating, hiking, and traveling.

Dr. Michael Robinson is a junior investigator specializing in cancer care delivery and health outcomes during and after therapy among pediatric and adolescent and young adult (AYA) patients. His research to date has centered on understanding the short- and long-term health and psychosocial outcomes in individuals with sarcoma across the lifespan. His long-term goal is to translate these insights into interventions that mitigate adverse outcomes, ultimately improving survival and quality of life for survivors.

During his fellowship training, Dr. Robinson was awarded two NCI-funded T32 training grants. Upon joining the faculty in the division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, he received a K12 award through the Vanderbilt Clinical Oncology Research Career Development Program (VCORCDP). He also holds a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI) from Vanderbilt University.

She implements community-engaged strategies throughout the research process, including the early involvement of Community Advisory Boards, to maximize cultural appropriateness and fit, effectiveness, sustainability, and scalability of health behavior interventions in children at disproportionate risk of ACEs-related disease.
