Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship Research Opportunities

A central focus of our fellowship is the development of exceptional hospital medicine pediatricians seeking to pursue a research-oriented career. We will accomplish this through rigorous clinical training, an immersive-mentored research experience, and an array of career development activities tailored to the needs of each trainee.

The division's discovery mission centers on improving care and outcomes for hospitalized children through clinical and translational research and quality improvement science. Our faculty and trainees are supported in these efforts through multiple intramural and extramural funding sources and a nurturing and well-resourced research infrastructure at the departmental (6th in NIH funding to Departments of Pediatrics nationwide in 2023) and institutional (10th in NIH funding at U.S. Schools of Medicine nationwide in 2023) levels. As such, trainees have access to a wide range of faculty mentors and a rich array of career development resources dedicated to scientific discovery.

Exceptional mentorship is the foundation of our research training curriculum, and each fellow will be supported by a faculty mentor and a Scholarship Oversight Committee to help navigate their scholarly pursuits. Trainees interested in pursuing a research-oriented career will be expected to pursue a third year of training and an advanced degree in research methods, such as a Master of Public Health, a Master of Science and Clinical Investigation, or a Master of Applied Clinical Informatics.
