The Pediatric Critical Care fellowship program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center is an ACGME-accredited three-year training program dedicated to developing fellows to become excellent pediatric intensivists. Our goal is to create an environment of collegial scholarship and apprenticeship for trainees in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine that fosters learning and growth for both fellows and faculty. Within this environment, we wish to nurture and promote the development of empathy, diversity and inclusion, respect, professionalism, scholarly inquiry, clinical excellence, and effective leadership as traits essential to practitioners of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
Our program is designed to provide trainees with exposure to a broad range of pediatric physiology and illness. During the 15 months of clinical training, pediatric critical care fellows rotate in both the medical/surgical critical care unit and the cardiac critical care unit. In both units, they are directly engaged in the management of the critically ill children and develop as team leaders with faculty oversight. Critical care faculty provide oversight on all ICU services (two CVICU and three PICU teams during the daytime) with 24-hour in-house attending coverage, ensuring that the time and resources provided for fellow learning are optimized.
During fellowship training, our pediatric critical care medicine fellows are also mentored in scholarship and academic career development. Faculty in the division of pediatric critical care medicine have a diverse array of clinical and scholarly interests. Fellows are supported in the exploration of scholarly focus with mentorship inside or outside the division, having support of the Department of Pediatrics and Vanderbilt University Medical Center community.
Our training program is equipped with all the necessary tools needed to provide fellows with diverse backgrounds and interests the ability grow into successful clinicians and academic faculty. Our program participates in the NRMP Match process, and we look forward to reviewing your application!
Sincerely,
