SHINE Clinical Research Program

We are inviting children ages 0 to 6 years old who were exposed to opioids before birth and their parents/caregivers to participate in the SHINE program. Babies who were exposed to opioids during pregnancy may have more developmental needs. We want to learn more about what those needs are and how we can help.

SHINE families will participate in:

  • Well child visits in the Pediatric Primary Care clinic at One Hundred Oaks, if you live in Davidson or a surrounding county
  • Additional developmental screenings from Psychologists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Speech Therapists
  • Case management services with a Family Care Coordinator
  • Lactation and nutrition support

For research purposes, we will collect information about your child’s growth and development, your family’s home environment, your caregiving style, and some mental health questions that will be kept confidential. If you decide to be part of the program, you may decline to participate in any screenings or questions that you would prefer to not answer.

The SHINE team will not be mad at you or your child if you decide to not be in the program. Your child will not have the additional screenings that are part of the SHINE program. If you live in Davidson or a surrounding county, you may choose for your child to not be in the SHINE program but still have care in the Pediatric Primary Care clinic at One Hundred Oaks.
