Research Information
Dr. Hiremath is a board-certified Pediatrician and Pediatric Gastroenterologist. He has a broad background in epidemiology, biostatistics, research methods, designing and executing clinical trials, and biomedical imaging. He has advanced training in Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorders through the NIH funded Consortium of Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disease Researchers.
Dr. Hiremath leads the multidisciplinary Pediatric Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorders Program at Vanderbilt. This clinic focuses on providing exceptional clinical care to eosinophilic gastrointestinal disease patients and serves as a referral center for patients living in the Southern region. Through his interactions with eosinophilic gastrointestinal disease patients and their caregivers, he is able to identify unmet needs that are most relevant to them, and this informs his translational research.
With his ongoing involvement in the NIH-supported Consortium of Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disease Researchers, Dr. Hiremath collaborates with experts within and outside of the United States. At Vanderbilt, he has developed an interdisciplinary approach to address some of the outstanding questions in the field (see Figure). He works collaboratively with adult Gastroenterologist’s, and experts in basic science, infectious diseases, pathology, nutrition, biomedical engineering, speech language pathology, bioinformatics, and computer science. He also works closely with the patient advocacy groups, patient registries, and pharmaceutical industry.
Dr. Hiremath has been taking of eosinophilic gastrointestinal disease patients and has been conducting eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases research for more than a decade. His commitment to the field has been recognized by his peers through his nomination to the Society for Pediatric Research and has received several awards and accolades. His research has been supported by NIH (T32, K12, K23, R21), the Consortium of Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disease Researchers, American College of Gastroenterology, and institutional grants.
