Research Information
Dr. Smith's clinical focus is hematologic malignancies, with a special interest in lymphoma. For her scholarly pursuits, she focuses on quality improvement (QI) and patient safety with multiple ongoing projects including work on Code Yellow (a protocol for fever and neutropenia), provision of survivorship care plans throughout the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, and increasing influenza prevention (vaccination and oseltamivir for exposures) in the pediatric oncology clinics. She leads interdisciplinary safety rounds on the main oncology units and the division Morbidity, Mortality, and Improvement conferences. She participates in education about QI with the Faculty Quality Academy. In addition to her work locally, Dr. Smith is the founding vice-chair of the ASPHO Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Special Interest Group, a member of the Children's Oncology Group, and a panel member for the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Pediatric Hodgkin's Guidelines Committee.
