Nishma Valikodath, MD
Medical School: University of Michigan Medical School
College: University of Michigan
Nishma was born and raised in southeast Michigan in a small town called Rockwood, about 30 minutes south of Detroit. Nishma went to University of Michigan for undergrad and double-majored in Spanish and Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience. Outside of the classroom, Nishma was involved in student organizations as well as teaching elementary school Spanish. Her passion for children and experiences in healthcare throughout undergrad led her to pursue a career in medicine. She remained at U of M for her medical school training where she developed a passion for global health. As a medical student, Nishma completed projects in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and she hopes to carry this passion for service low-income communities throughout her career. She is also interested in pursuing a fellowship, such as cardiology or critical care. Outside of medicine, Nishma loves to spend time with family and friends, run, play volleyball, and read. This is Nishma's first time living outside of Michigan, so she is ecstatic to explore a new city and state for her residency training and be part of the Vanderbilt Pediatrics family.
