Julie Wittwer, MD
Wayne State University School of Medicine
Pediatrics - Vanderbilt University Medical Center/Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt
Julie grew up in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan with her parents and two younger brothers. She attended DePauw University where she earned her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and played four years of varsity tennis. She then moved back home for medical school at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. Julie was a medical student leader for FitKids 360 Detroit, a family-centered childhood obesity intervention program. This experience solidified her love for the pediatric population and her passion for obesity counseling and weight management. Julie was so excited to leave the Michigan winters behind and move down to Nashville for pediatric residency at Vanderbilt. During residency, she has continued to research pediatric obesity in attempt to deepen her understanding of how this problem is best approached in the primary care setting. She has also developed an interest in resident and medical student education and is excited to continue to grow as an educator during her Chief Resident year.
Outside of the hospital, Julie loves being outdoors and staying active! You can find her at the Capitol Steps workout on Mondays and Thursdays and she continues to play tennis regularly. She also enjoys running on Nashville’s greenways and exploring all the hiking trails Tennessee has to offer. Julie loves visiting her family in Michigan but is trying to convince everyone to move down to Tennessee with her. Following her Chief Resident year, Julie is planning on staying in the Nashville area to pursue a career in primary care pediatrics.
